Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you.

Katherine Curnow is a highly sought-after Perth-based vocalist with over 20 years training and performance experience. An avid music lover of all genres, she specialises in soul, R&B, hip-hop, pop but has been known to delve into the world of french cabaret.

Katherine grew up surrounded by an eclectic audio landscape from ACDC and the The Rolling Stones (Dad's influence) to Kenny Rogers and Human Nature (Mum's influence) but naturally gravitated to powerful female vocalists of the 90's and early 2000's like Tina Arena, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion but it was ultimately Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera that won her heart. In 1996 she discovered R&B vocal groups such as Allure, En Vogue K-Ci & Jojo, Boyz II Men and fell in love once again.

She first discovered she had a talent for singing when she entered her class talent quest at the age of seven, deciding "Oh I'll just sing" without any inclination of whether she was "good" or not. She sang a solo rendition of A Whole New World from Disney's Aladdin and was surprised to receive nothing but positive feedback from her classmates and teacher. Later at age nine, Katherine entered her Primary School talent quest and sang the Australia National Anthem and was awarded one of the prizes in the competition and subsequent solos and opportunities to sing the anthem at school events from age nine to 12. She was taught and mentored by the school music teacher during, Irene Dios, during this time and still regards her as one of most important musical influences in her musical upbringing and career.

In 2009, after completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications at Curtin University of Technology, Katherine was accepted into the West Australian Academy of Performing arts for Contemporary Voice  and continued her studies until mid 2010. In 2011, she relocated to London, UK, spending a lot of time soaking up the culture during her travels throughout the UK, ultimately influencing her musical style.

Her versatility transcends musical genres through her ability to sing in five languages (including French, Spanish, Italian and Tagalog) and she is constantly experimenting with new sounds and incorporating a lot of electronic elements into her performances.

Her sultry and soulful vocals are drawn from her deep rooted love of soul, R&B, pop and hip hop music; heavily influenced by artists such as Donny Hathaway, D’angelo, Erykah Badu, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill and Jojo.

Her work schedule is kept very busy with private teaching, performing at mainly private functions and select events around Perth as well as working on multiple projects including curating and hosting jam night Workshop, she wouldn't have it any other way. She also hopes to release original music she has been working on in the near future.

Katherine is available for private vocal coaching sessions, beginners piano and all private events and corporate functions. Previous venues and clients include The Ellington Jazz Club, Bush Hall (London), The Troubadour (London), Fremantle Football Club, Crown Resort Perth and was the support act for 90's R&B boy group 112 for their 2015 Australian Tour at The Astor.
